And with that, the 2025-26 LSU athletics season is over.
The LSU men’s and women’s track & field teams finished their seasons in Eugene this weekend, and both teams had a higher finish than their ranking before the meets began. The men came in ranked sixth and finished fourth with 42 points, while the women came in ranked 13th and finished 10th with 24 points. Arkansas won the men’s title, their first men’s outdoor title in 23 years, and Georgia repeated as women’s champions.
LSU men
LSU got their first six
points of the meet on Wednesday from senior javelinist Jack Larriviere. Larriviere missed the last two seasons after complications from Tommy John surgery, but he finished a remarkable comeback season with a fantastic 77.91m (255’ 7”) throw to finish third. Friday, LSU’s 4x100m team of Jeremiah Walker, Jaiden Reid, Shakeem McKay and Joshua Caleb clocked a 38.06, the second-best 4×1 time in LSU men’s history, to finish second and score eight points. That finish was thanks to both Arkansas and Auburn dropping their batons. LSU’s next point came in the 110m hurdles when Matthew Sophia finished eighth.
LSU then picked up eight more points when Jaiden Reid ran a wind-aided 9.82 in the 100m final to finish second. LSU brought three qualifiers to the 400m heats, but only one made the final. Amal Glasgow finished eighth to pick up an important point. LSU’s next points were the biggest of the season. Jaiden Reid had the race of his life and cruised to the national title, and his wind-legal 19.63 set a new collegiate record and set a new world lead for 2026. This is the only national title of any kind that LSU won in the 2025-26 season, and it gave LSU 10 more points.
LSU came very close to picking up a second natty in the 4x400m relay, the final event of the night. The Tiger squad of Amal Glasgow, Shakeem McKay, Grant Buckmiller and Malachi Austin looked like they were going to cruise to victory, but Georgia closed in on the final leg and sniped the title. LSU’s 2:57.96 set a school record and put LSU ahead of Oregon for fourth place.
LSU finished 47th at the men’s indoor track nationals. They roared back to finish fourth and make some history along the way.
LSU women
LSU got all their points Saturday, and Shawnti Jackson was at least partly responsible for all but one of them. The 4x100m relay team of Athaleyha Hinson, Tima Godbless, Aniyah Bigam and Shawnti Jackson started the day with a remarkable second-place finish with a school-record 41.74, the first sub-42 4×1 in LSU women’s track history. That gave LSU eight points. Jackson and Godbless qualified to the final and scored points. Godbless finished seventh to score two points, while Jackson finished third with an 11.01 to score six points. Jackson scored LSU’s final points of the meet in the 200m. She ran a 22.12 to finish second and score eight points.
LSU finished 33rd at the women’s indoor track nationals, and this tenth place finish is a great bounce back from that.
The 134th LSU athletics season began officially on August 17. 300 days later, it ended. The 135th season will begin with an LSU soccer match in August that has yet to be announced, and it will end in June in either Eugene or Omaha. Welcome to the official LSU athletics off-season.
