The Jacksonville Jaguars begin their London stretch this week against the Philadelphia Eagles. The two teams have played each other eight times, and the Eagles currently lead the series 5-3. The Jags are technically the home team this week, so let’s look at Philadelphia being defeated in Jacksonville throughout the decades.
The 1990’s
Week 7 on October 12, 1997
Final score: Eagles 21 – Jaguars 38
Attendance: 69,150
The Eagles had the Jaguars beat with 23 first downs, 393 total net yards, and a 36:30
time of possession, compared to the Jags’ 21 first downs, 306 net yards, and 23:30; they could not get the job done. Mark Brunell completed 14 out of 19 attempted passes for 153 yards and was sacked three times. James Stewart scored all five touchdowns and led the team with 102 rushing yards. Keenan McCardell led with 64 receiving yards. Mike Hollis made the attempted field goal. Deon Figures had a 32-yard interception. Tony Brackens, Jeff Lageman, Clyde Simmons, and Joel Smeenge recorded four sacks on Ty Detmer and Rodney Peete for a loss of 22 yards.
The 2000’s
Week 5 on October 6, 2002
Final score: Eagles 25 – Jaguars 28
Attendance: 65,005
Once again, Philadelphia had more first downs, total net yards, and a longer time of possession than Jacksonville, but we all know the numbers on the scoreboard are more important at the end of the day. Kyle Brady, Stacey Mack, and Bobby Shaw scored touchdowns. Mark Brunell completed 13 out of 23 attempted passes for 197 yards and was sacked once. Fred Taylor led the team with 48 rushing yards, and Jimmy Smith led with 91 receiving yards. Hayden Epstein made the two attempted field goals. John Henderson, Donovin Darius, and Marco Coleman sacked Donovan McNabb five times for a loss of 23 yards. Darius and Fernando Bryant led the team with seven tackles each.
The 2010’s
They tried.
The 2020’s
I have a good feeling that this is their year. I know I said this last week, but they won, so fingers crossed.
