Rio Ngumoha burst onto the scene for Liverpool last season in the beginning phases of the campaign, having been initially propelled by his late, stoppage time winner at Newcastle United back in August for one of the Red’s first Premier League matches of the season. At the time, Arne Slot was coming off of the title-winning 2024/25 season on Merseyside, but fate would take several twists and turns throughout the course of a turbulent season and Liverpool have now already hired Adoni Iraola to replace
the Dutchman. What that means for Ngumoha is yet to be determind.
As per BBC Sport correspondent Sami Mokbel (via @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich are still among a list of top European clubs that have expressed some interest in the 17-year-old winger who was reportedly frustrated with a like of chances being given to him by Slot. Even fans inside Anfield had voiced their frustration when they loudly booed Slots decision to replace Ngumoha with Alexander Isak in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea towards the end of the season. The instance typified the growing level of concern the majority of Liverpool fans had with Slot having not already been sacked and Ngumoha not getting ample chances that he deserved in what was a sputtering Liverpool attacking line.
Much like the other clubs that have shown interest in the young phenom, Bayern are well aware of the fact that he was displeased with his status at the club towards the end of the season, but now things have changed since Iraola has been brought in from Bournemouth. Additionally, the Reds have remained firm in their stance that they don’t plan on selling Ngumoha this season, but that doesn’t completely rule out the possibility altogether.
For the time being, Ngumoha has been with the England senior squad training in the United States ahead of the start of the World Cup and he clocked 45 minutes in the 1-0 tuneup friendly win over New Zealand in Tampa Bay, Florida. He was not in the squad in Orlando for the 3-0 win over Costa Rica, however.
Nonetheless, with his cameos of brilliance in a Liverpool shirt and the managerial situation having been a ticking time bomb, it’s no surprise that there’s a slew of clubs interested in Ngumoha and with a current market value of 30 million euros and a contract that runs through the summer of 2028, Liverpool will know they could get a decent fee for him if they do decide to entertain offers for potentially selling him this summer.
