Barcelona are reportedly looking to bolster their squad in the January transfer window after losing Andreas Christensen to a serious knee injury.
A host of center-backs have already been linked with the
Catalan giants, as Hansi Flick’s side look for a low-cost, short-term fix in the winter window.
However, it’s not an easy task finding such a player midway through the season, and a new report from Mundo Deportivo claims that Barcelona are also expanding their search to look at defensive midfielders who can also play at center-back.
The feeling is that signing such a player could also allow Eric Garcia to move back into central defence if needed and would give Hansi Flick more options for the second half of the season.
The report curiously doesn’t mention any names, citing only Nathan Ake and Stefan de Vrij once again, but perhaps does highlight just how tricky Barca are already finding the search to bring in an adequate replacement for Christensen this winter.
