When Max Eberl arrived at Bayern Munich in March 2024, he found a club that, despite its enormous expectations and history of success, had lost some of its energy and enthusiasm. What he witnessed inside the first-team facilities left a lasting impression, and he believes Kompany has fundamentally changed the atmosphere since taking charge.
Speaking to Säbener 51 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Eberl explained how dramatically the mood around the squad has shifted.
“With a team like Bayern, the desire
to achieve something big together is a crucial factor. And the coach has an enormous influence on that. When I first visited the first-team facilities a few times after taking up my role in March 2024, I thought — what a state of lethargy. It was as if a heavy blanket had been thrown over everything. Come on, guys, we’re at FC Bayern! We can win the title every year. We should be enjoying ourselves. Vincent Kompany completely brought that spirit back to life. Many of the players are the same, but they seem like completely different people,” Eberl stated.
That is perhaps one of Kompany’s most significant achievements. His impact has not simply been about tactics, formations, or results. He has helped restore the belief, confidence, and collective ambition that should define a club like Bayern.
The players have rediscovered their joy, the football has become more proactive, and the team looks capable of competing for the biggest prizes again.
