Following Thursday’s loss to Lille in the Europa League, their second defeat of the season in all competitions, Roma returns to her domestic duties today. Facing a struggling Fiorentina side, the odds
should favor the Giallorossi, but for those of us still haunted by the 5-1 thrashing from last fall, the Viola are a potential stumbling block for Gian Piero Gasperini’s group.
While it’s still early days in the new Serie A season, a victory today would ensure that Roma remains in a dead heat with Napoli, Juventus, Inter and AC Milan near the top of the table. And if things really go their way on Sunday, the Giallorossi could be standing on top of the heap after Matchday 6.
For now, however, the focus remains on Fiorentina. Roma rebounded after their first defeat of the season, a one-nil loss to Torino, by toppling Lazio in the Derby della Capitale, so let’s hope for a similar result today in Firenze.
