Just because Bayern Munich has already clinched the league, head coach Vincent Kompany insists the pitch will not not look like European version of Romper Room.
In fact, the coach says that if any young players make appearances, it will be because they have earned the right to play minutes.
“Tom Bischof, Lennart Karl — they’re still young players, right? They’re already in the squad. The others are also there to provide competition. A few are out, unfortunately. For me, it’s just about winning our
games still and that the guys earn their chance. That’s nothing to do with whether we’re champions but whether the guys have earned their appearances,” Kompany said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kompany will likely rotate heavily in the Bundesliga through the rest of the season, but he is correct — there is a major injury problem for some of the club’s best, young players. No doubt, Kompany will be seeking to rest his regulars more as the season winds down, but he wants to be clear — minutes granted under his tenure are earned, not gifted.
