A mostly stable week for the Cleveland Browns, with little drama and rumors, had a bit of noise added to it on Saturday when QB Shedeur Sanders was added to the injury report and QB Bailey Zappe was elevated from the practice squad. On the same day that reports came out that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam still fully supported HC Kevin Stefanski (and used the Deshaun Watson trade as an excuse again) and that the owner believed QB Dillon Gabriel needed more time, the popular backup quarterback was back in the news.
Gabriel has not looked good in three games, but the schedule played a bit of a role in some of those performances. Sanders had a very good debut in the preseason, but the final preseason action showed a quarterback who needed some more time.
Cleveland has seemed more than patient in making sure Sanders is ready before they put him on the field, especially with the new back injury.
With a couple of hours to go until the kickoff of Week 8 against the New England Patriots, Sanders took the field alongside a trainer and QB coach Bill Musgrave:
In a couple of videos, we see the backup quarterback moving around the field while being monitored:
This stretch in particular looks like one to test his range of motion. Compared to the trainer, Sanders is not moving forward all the way with the motion:
The inactive reports are due at 11:30 AM, where we will get the official report on Sanders’ availability for Week 8 versus the Patriots.
