Joao Cancelo’s future is currently making headlines as the Portugal star tries to secure a return to Europe from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
The defender is thought to be eager to return to Barcelona,
who aren’t yet convinced about whether to make a move, while Inter are also said to be keen.
Inter president Beppe Marotta has been asked about the situation and admits his club are in talks but that the defender’s salary is a problem.
“Dumfries will be out for two more months and we are negotiating with João Cancelo. We need to find a solution at right-back,” he said, according to Fabrizio Romano.
“Cancelo has a huge salary, we are in negotiations to clarify the situation,” he said. There’s talk Inter could use Francesco Acerbi or Stefan de Vrij as part of any deal and Marotta added: “they want a new centre-back… we’ll see.”
Cancelo’s salary is said to be a major reason why Barcelona may not end up going for the defender. The 31-year-old is thought to be desperate to return to Camp Nou but a move to Inter looks more likely right now.
