Triple-A: Norfolk Tides vs. Charlotte Knights (White Sox) PPD — Rain
The game will be made up today as part of a doubleheader
Double-A: Erie SeaWolves (Tigers) 8, Chesapeake Baysox 7
Frederick Bencosme cut the lead to one with a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth, and Chesapeake got the tying run into scoring position, but the SeaWolves escaped with a one-run win. Tavian Josenberger botched a sacrifice bunt attempt, Griff O’Ferrall struck out looking, and Douglas Hodo III popped out to end the game.
The loss spoiled a big night at the plate for the Baysox. Brandon Butterworth launched a solo shot in the first inning
on his way to a 3-for-5 night. Adam Retzbach went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Aron Estrada singled, walked, and scored a run from the leadoff spot, and Josenberger took four walks in five at bats.
Sebastian Gongora took the loss with six earned runs over only four innings. Gongora allowed nine hits, walked one, and surrendered a three-run homer in the third. Chesapeake’s bullpen did its part, but the damage had already been done. The two runs scored off reliever Ryan Long were unearned.
High-A: Frederick Keys 1, Rome Emperors (Braves) 1
Play was suspended in the seventh inning. The game will be completed today.
Victor Figueroa drove in Frederick’s only run with a base hit in the sixth inning. Caden Hunter tossed 5.2 innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts and no walks. Cohen Achen is still technically Frederick’s pitcher after recording an out in the bottom of the sixth.
Game 1: Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 10, Hill City Howlers (Guardians) 9 F/8
The Shorebirds needed an extra inning to secure the win in Game 1. Jaiden Lo Re drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, and Riley Cooper stranded the potential tying run at third base.
Delmarva trailed 4-0 before striking for four in the fifth and five in the sixth. DJ Layton finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Junior Aybar went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, and Jose Perez scored twice during a 2-for-4 night.
Andrew Herbert and Kailen Hamson allowed all nine runs in 5.2 innings. Cooper earned the win with 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.
Game 2: Low-A: Delmarva Shorebirds 13, Hill City Howlers (Guardians) 5 F/7
Delmarva reached double digits in both legs of the doubleheader. The Shorebirds entered the seventh inning tied at five before exploding for eight runs. Despite the high score, Delmarva only recorded two extra-base hits and did not hit a home run. The Shorebirds walked eight times and took advantage of five Hill City errors.
Braylon Whitaker walked three times from the leadoff spot. Jordan Sanchez, DJ Layton, and Félix Amparo combined for eight of Delmarva’s nine hits.
