With Spartan football on a bye this week we thought it would be a great opportunity to do a little Spartan Sports Roundup on all the other action Spartan athletics have been up to. So, let’s start off with Men’s Soccer and their recent historic win against #3 IU.
Men’s Soccer
MSU soccer had its highest ranked win since 2014 as the Spartans knocked off #3 Indiana at DeMartin Stadium on September 23. Freshman midfielder Peter Soudan scored the only goal in the match as senior goalkeeper Zac Kelly led a tremendous
defensive assault on the Hoosiers. The win evens the Spartan’s record at 4-4 and gives them their first conference win. Next match is against down the road at that other school on Friday night.
Women’s Soccer
The women’s soccer team is currently has a 4-2-4 record this season and 1-0-2 in the conference. The Spartans had a good tie against #4 UCLA last week and took care of USC 4-0 on Sunday. The Spartans play next at Minnesota on September 25. They may not be currently ranked after losing all their firepower from last season, but Kennedy Bell looks to stay hot after 7 points in the last two games and try to get the Spartans back in the polls.
Women’s Volleyball
MSU closed out their non conference portion of the schedule at a perfect 10-0. This week they open up conference play at Minnesota on September 25 and against that other school for the Battle at Breslin Saturday at 8pm. Both matches will be on BTN for viewing eyes and I highly suggest we fill up Breslin on Saturday for the ladies as they try to continue their winning streak.
Men’s and Women’s Golf
The men’s golf team will be at Windon Memorial at Knollwood Club in Lake Forest, IL on September 29th and 30th. They are averaging about a 5th or 6th place finish as a team this season. The women just finished up the Canadian Collegiate Invitational where they finished in 9th place. Next week they will play in the Windy City Classic.
Field Hockey
MSU Field Hockey is heading on the road to #20 Penn State and Bucknell. The Spartans are at 2-3 and look for the upset to get back into the win column and kill the two game losing streak.
Men’s Tennis
The Spartans headed to Tulsa on the 24th to compete in the ITA All-American Championship. The event runs through Sunday. Ozan Baris looks to continue his dominance coming off his B1G Player of the Week award after his play in Battle in the Bay.
Cross Country
The men finished first and dominated and the women finished second in their recent meet at the 44th Annual Spartan Invite. On Friday, they head to Missouri for the Gans Creek Classic.
In some additional exciting news MSU Hockey opens its season on national TV as ESPNU will be broadcasting on October 17 as they face BU. Matt Basgall was named Team Captain. Spartan Basketball started practice and Izzo announced Fears, Carr, Kohler and Cooper as Team Captains. Let us know what Spartan sports you enjoy following or want more content on in the comments.
