The Michigan Wolverines are just a few days away from beginning the 2025 season, as they will kick things off Saturday night against New Mexico at the Big House. After a disappointing 8-5 campaign a year ago, Michigan fans are eager to start fresh. The arrival of quarterback Bryce Underwood has brought a ton of buzz to Ann Arbor, and expectations for him and the team are high.
With Week 1 about to begin, let’s make a few bold predictions for Michigan’s 2025 season.
Michigan will beat Ohio State…again
Okay, this isn’t exactly a bold prediction
given the fact Michigan has beaten Ohio State four years in a row. Still, the majority of outsiders are giving the edge to the Buckeyes this season despite the Wolverines’ win streak and The Game shifting being played in Ann Arbor.
Last season, Ohio State had a win gifted on a silver platter, and Michigan still found a way to get it done. The Wolverines were three-touchdown underdogs going on the road to play the Buckeyes, and the Michigan offense was a disaster. Everyone expected an Ohio State blowout, but the 6-5 Wolverines prevailed.
Winning in Columbus last year showed just how big of a problem Michigan is for Ohio State right now. The Wolverines should be in a much better position this season, and The Game will be at home. The Buckeyes, on the other hand, lost 14 players to the NFL. Their roster isn’t nearly as talented as it was a year ago. Michigan will make it five in a row.
Michigan will beat Notre Dame in the CFP
Michigan is going to win at least 10 games in the regular season, and that will get the team back to the College Football Playoff. There is a solid chance that both the Wolverines and Notre Dame end up ranked in the 5-12 range when the season ends. The 12-team CFP creates a lot of opportunities for postseason rivalry games, and we’re going to get one this year. Michigan and Notre Dame will play for the first time since 2019, and it will be an on-campus game. The buzz around this game would be remarkable, and the Wolverines will take down the Irish to advance in the CFP if it does happen.
Michigan’s season ends in the CFP quarterfinals
The Wolverines are going to win a playoff game this year, but the season will end in the quarterfinals. This should be a really good team, as Michigan is loaded defensively and should get the quarterback play that is needed for a playoff run. But this isn’t going to be the year the Wolverines go all the way again. Underwood is going to be a big step up from last year, but like every freshman, he is going to make mistakes. Michigan will make a good run and it will be a fun season, but the Wolverines will ultimately fall short.
After the way that last season went, Michigan fans want to see progress. There is clearly a lot of talent on this team, and beating Ohio State and making the CFP would be a great sign. There aren’t many fans that would be unhappy with that season.
