Juventus have not done much business so far this summer under their new CEO, but the two players that they’ve signed under Giovanni Carnevali’s watch have come about in the same kind of manner.
There’s been little to no reporting for the days leading up to an official announcement, and then suddenly there’s a player in Turin getting ready for their medicals. First it was teenage Genoa striker Jeff Ekhator. Now, a couple of weeks later, it’s Juve swooping in and signing fullback Zeki Çelik, who looked
to be on the cusp of signing a contract extension at Roma … until he wasn’t and in a Jeep for his medicals at J Medical.
Two signings with barely any real build-up until the deals are reported as closed and then they’re official a short time later.
As much as the more notable potential deals have dominated the conversation, it’s those done more in the background and to the surprise of many when reports hit the internet that they’re closed is how the deals that have actually been closed have gotten done so far this summer.
It’s an interesting twist to a summer mercato that hasn’t had much actual activity outside of that.
