It’s here! It’s finally here! The No. 2 Penn State Nittany Lions open their season on Saturday, August 30, at 3:30 PM EST against Nevada! After nine months in the wilderness, we will finally see the kind of team James Franklin will put on the field in his 12th season as the head coach of the Nittany Lions.
We’ve heard all the narratives that you could want, and then some. Penn State is poised to win a title. Penn State cna’t win a title because Franklin can’t win a big game —and if he does, it wasn’t
a big game. Drew Allar is not as good as people think. The wide receivers are not as good as people think. Drew Allar is a sure fire No. 1 pick. The receivers are the best since Jahan Dotson.
And so on.
This has led to a mountain of expectations, none worse than the expectations the players and coaches put on themselves. Now, it’s your turn.
You saw what the staff predicted last week. You predicted alongside in the comments. But, what do you define as a successful season? Is it title or bust? Is an Oregon-like season, where they go undefeated, win the Big Ten, and get bounced in the quarterfinals enough? Is it another appearance in the semifinals? Does Penn State need to at least reach the national title game to be deemed a success?
Or is it as simple as “beat Ohio State for the first time since 2016?”
