In a close game with poor turnovers on both sides, the Seahawks lost the home game verses the division rival 49ers. A quick turnaround this week as they face a former AFC West rival in the Denver Broncos, where both teams will be adorning themselves in their throwback jerseys, harkening to those former division matchups. Who will win this matchup? What will the scores be? Let’s find out.
Seahawks advanced stat rankings
The Seahawks per FTN are the eighth ranked team per Total DVOA, with the 22nd ranked Offense per DVOA, the second
ranked defense per DVOA, and the eighth ranked special teams per DVOA.
Per Sumer Sports, the Seahawks have the second ranked defense per total EPA and EPA per play, and have the 25th ranked offense per Total EPA and EPA per play.
The Seahawks have the fifth best point differential in the league with a +29 and a margin of victory of 5.8. They are currently averaging 26.8 points per game while allowing opponents to score 21 per game.
Broncos advanced stat rankings
Denver is the 16th ranked team per total DVOA per FTN. They have the 19th ranked offense per DVOA, the 10th ranked defense, and the 12th ranked special teams.
Per Sumer Sports, the Broncos have the ninth ranked defense in total EPA and 11th in EPA per play, while on the other side of the ball, they have the 23rd total offense per EPA, and the 24th offense in EPA per play.
The Broncos are ranked 23rd in point differential with -14 and a margin of victory of -2.8. They are averaging 19.4 points per game and allowing opponents an average of 22.2 points per game.
Calculating the Score
SEA 26.8 + DEN Opp 22.2 = 49/2= 24.5
DEN 19.4 + SEA Opp 21= 40.4/2= 20.2
First Score Prediction= 25 – 20 Seahawks
Now, Seahawks have a win margin of 5.8, so, subtracting one point from the initial score prediction results in the Broncos scoring 19 points
Second Score Prediction= 20-19 Seahawks
Now, as with last week, I will be looking at how the top performers for the teams have played, and see how that may effect the score.
The Broncos are averaging two receiving touchdowns a game, and half a rushing touchdown a game. Bo Nix may throw two touchdowns. Nate Atkins has two receiving touchdowns so far, with Jaylen Waddle as their receiving yards leader and has a touchdown, so they may be the targets there. Nix and JK Dobbins each have a rushing touchdown, with both Nix and Dobbins having fumbles. Will Lutz has yet to miss an extra point. 21 points is likely based on this.
As for Seattle, they are averaging 3.2 receiving touchdowns and .8 rushing touchdowns a game. With Jaxon Smith-Njigba having seven touchdowns and Emanuel Wilson scoring two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdowns, they will likely continue to be the touchdown leaders for the team. Sam Darnold has seven touchdowns thrown in three games, so it is not out of the realm of possibility for him to throw three touchdowns this game, especially with the Broncos likely to be out their two top corners. 28 points feels like a real possibility.
Third Score Prediction= 28-21 Seahawks
