Like most Duke fans, we took immense pride in last year’s team. It was a truly special group.
We’ve been there before of course. The 1986 team was special too. So were the 1991-1992 teams. So was the 1999
team. The 2001 team was great from start to finish. 2010? 2015? 2019?
All wonderful, memorable teams.
We’ve just begun to get a sense of the 2025-26 team, but one of our favorite plays of this year, no matter what happens for the rest of the season, took place against Western Carolina Saturday afternoon.
On one play, we saw some unbelievably gutty defense from multiple players.
First, Nik Khamenia knocked the ball loose (and was subsequently knocked down himself). Then Cayden Boozer dove in to knock it loose from the Western Carolina player who was trying to recover it. The ball was knocked downcourt and another Catamount tried to pick it up, but Darren Harris had followed the action and dove for the ball, knocking it loose again.
Finally, Dame Sarr comes into the screen and is ready to dive for it a third time but he (correctly) judged that he couldn’t beat the ball to the sideline and held up.
Did we mention that Duke was up 19-6 at the time?
It was one of the best hustle plays we’ve seen in a very long time.
