In a social media message co-posted by Tyson Fury and Ring Magazine, Fury has publicly announced that he will return to the ring to continue his career. Fury had made his most recent retirement announcement after losing back-to-back decisions against Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, still believing he was hard done by on the scorecards — particularly in their second meeting.
“2026 is the return of the mac,” Fury posted. “Been away for a while but I’m back now, 37 years old and still punching. Nothing better
to do than punch men in the face and get paid for it.”
The mercurial has of course claimed retirement at least a few times before and has always found his way back into the ring, and this instance appears to be no different from any other time he claimed he was walking away from the sport, only to then announce a comeback.
Fury had been strongly linked to a potential showdown against longtime British rival Anthony Joshua, but it’s not immediately clear whether that fight is still on the table considering that Joshua just recently survived a horrendous car crash in Nigeria which saw two of his team members killed.
If Fury is now unable to secure a fight against Joshua for the time being, it’s possible he tries to seek out yet another fight against Usyk, who himself has been targeting a fight against Deontay Wilder despite pretty much no fan demand behind it.
In any event, the picture for Fury’s 2026 plans should become more clear in the coming weeks.
