Scott Coker is returning to mixed martial arts.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Coker is expected to co-found a new MMA promotion, which is targeted to launch in 2027. The former head of Strikeforce and Bellator is partnering with a number of investors, including skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, with a total of $60 million in financial backing.
Coker also serves as CEO for the new promotion, which has yet to be named.
“I always knew I wanted to come back when the time was right, with
the right vision and a carefully curated team. That time is now,” Coker said in a press release. “There is an incredible demand for a fresh, new global brand in MMA. This new league is about returning to what matters: the integrity of competition, respect for the athletes and sharing their remarkable journeys with the world. We are building something authentic, something that belongs to the athletes and to the fans who live and breathe this sport.”
The report states Peter Levin of Griffin Gaming is also a co-founder for the promotion.
Additionally, Coker confirmed the news of his return to fans on social media on Thursday with a short, simple greeting.
The rest of the new promotion’s leadership team, name, schedule, and fighters on the roster will be announced in the near future.
