A promising piece of No. 9 Maryland women’s basketball’s future will have to wait a bit longer to shine. Freshman guard Lea Bartelme suffered a season-ending ACL tear, the team announced Friday.
Bartelme is playing her first season of American basketball, coming to College Park from Slovenia. She started each of her first four games as a Terp and flashed the pieces that could make her a complete player in years to come, with 13 points and five rebounds against Georgetown and seven assists against UMBC.
Freshman Addi Mack took Bartelme’s spot in the starting lineup Sunday against Princeton.
