Your Georgetown Hoyas prepare to visit the George Washington Revolutionaries at 6PM on Saturday, October 18, marking the return of a historic local matchup and perhaps the first public exhibition game
the program has scheduled under recent NCAA permission. This game allows Coach Ed Cooley and the team to test their readiness against outside competition before the regular season begins next month. Hoyas fans have heard the excitement building, especially since this contest against their D.C. neighbors is the first since 1981. Tickets are available and TV info has been released.
Monumental Sports Network (MNMT) will broadcast the highly anticipated game live from George Washington’s Charles E. Smith Center at 6:00 PM. Coverage begins at 5:30 PM with a pregame show. The telecast reportedly features Byron Kerr on play-by-play and MNMT’s Jimmy Patsos providing commentary.
Stream availability outside the DMV seems a bit hazy. Fans can apparently watch the game on MNMT by either subscribing directly to the Monumental+ service or by watching through a variety of TV providers. Some national streaming services like DIRECTV STREAM, as well as some (local) cable providers such as Xfinity, Verizon, RCN, and more, may include MNMT in their channel lineups, but it is unclear whether the channel was recently dropped from YouTube TV and Hulu.
The broadcast is said to be accessible via the Monumental Sports Network app on streaming devices allowing login with their TV provider credentials or their Monumental+ subscription—monthly ($19.99/month) or annually ($179.99/year).
GUHoyas.com does not indicate there will be a radio broadcast, yet. Federal employees can claim up to 2 complimentary tickets (100 available; before October 17th).
On the court, GW will offer a solid early test for the Hoyas. The Revolutionaries were recently projected to finish fourth in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, matching their highest ranking in a decade. Furthermore, the KenPom rankings place George Washington slightly ahead of Georgetown (81 to 82, respectively).
According to their press releases, George Washington returns key talent, including redshirt senior forward Rafael Castro, who was named to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference First Team and All-Defensive Team. Duquesne transfer guard Tre Dinkins III and returning guards Trey Autry and Christian Jones also earned preseason honors, meaning the Hoyas may face a talented and cohesive group.
Georgetown’s roster, featuring key transfers like Vince Iwuchukwu (St. John’s), KJ Lewis (Arizona), and DeShawn Harris-Smith (Maryland), has already generated a measured sense of optimism. Last week, college basketball reporter Jon Rothstein visited a Georgetown practice and shared some insights. He emphasized the Hoyas’ physical nature, calling them “the most physically imposing team I saw unequivocally,” likely referring to the duration of his trip to the DMV.
This size gives the team the potential to be a standout defensive unit in Cooley’s third season. Many of the Georgetown faithful have said that a defensive identity, reminiscent of past Georgetown success, is necessary for a return to contention. Rothstein suggested the Hoyas belong in the competitive “second tier” of the Big East, competing for the third or fourth conference spot with teams like Creighton, Marquette, and Providence.
However, the primary question by anyone who has watched this promising physical team remains: offense. Rothstein stated clearly that the challenge for Cooley is whether this team can consistently score, wondering aloud, “The question is, can this team get 65 points per game?” If they can, the Hoyas are positioned to be successful.
This Saturday’s contest is the first chance to evaluate the team’s progress toward addressing that scoring question. After the George Washington matchup, Georgetown will travel to Lexington for their second exhibition.
They will face Kentucky on Thursday, October 30, at 7:00 PM, a game available on SEC+. This pair of exhibition games will provide the fans a glimpse of how the team has been preparing before the season officially tips off.
