Recent positive results from youth players in the German national team setup—particularly in midfield—have sparked a sudden movement to oust Joshua Kimmich from the squad. However, Vincent Kompany, Kimmich’s manager at FC Bayern, remains unbothered by the noise (via Sky Germany’s Torben Hoffmann, as reported by @iMiaSanMia
).“I often try to stay out of these little debates because, well, they’re just little debates,” Kompany said. “And no, I’m not influenced by what happens with the national team.
I think it’s actually the other way around: the national team is influenced by what happens at club level.”
His point carries weight, as a segment of Germany and Bayern supporters believes a strong Bayern core in the national side virtually guarantees international success.
Looking at Bayern’s current squad, several players are indeed regular starters for Germany: Kimmich, Aleksandar Pavlović, Tom Bischof, Jonathan Tah, and Jonas Urbig. Others, such as Jamal Musiala, Lennart Karl, and Nathaniel Brown, have yet to lock down permanent starting roles, but there is no denying that on their day, they can—and will—start for the national team.
