Bayern Munich star Harry Kane has had a tremendous season — a truly spectacular campaign for both club and country.
Is Kane England’s only “world class” player, though?
According to Rio Ferdinand, the striker stands alone on the Three Lions.
“Harry Kane is our only genuinely world-class player right now. There’s others teetering around it but he’s the absolutely world-class player in the squad. If you’re looking at players who sit right at the top table and are there comfortably? He is that for England,”
said Ferdinand said on Rio Ferdinand Presents (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kane is a force of nature, especially this season, but that seems like a harsh assessment for a squad that is pretty deep and talented.
England took care of Croatia 4-2 in its first World Cup match and has two more very winnable games left in the group stage vs. Ghana and Panama. Surely, the Three Lions will have more players take a star turn in those match-ups, but no one will complain if Kane continues to put in Player of the Match-type performances as well.
How good has Kane been? Check out the reaction of Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu getting a photo with the Englishman:
