It turns out that Russell Wilson won’t be the only former Seattle Seahawks player making their way onto the NFL on CBS broadcast roster.
While the recently retired Super Bowl champion quarterback is set to be part of the “NFL Today” studio panel, another ex-Seahawk is getting a call-up as a game analyst.
Robert Turbin, who’s already a color commentator for CBS Sports Network on college football games, will make his NFL broadcasting debut in Week 1 when the Cleveland Browns take on the Jacksonville
Jaguars.
CBS announced a host of changes to their commentary rotation, including the (temporary, but maybe permanent?) promotion of J.J. Watt to the No. 1 team alongside Jim Nantz. Tony Romo is currently on leave due to his recent arrest.
Ross Tucker, who normally works with McCarthy on NFL games, has been bumped all the way up to the No. 2 team with Ian Eagle. That opens the door for Turbin to get the odd game here and there.
Turbin was drafted by the Seahawks in the fourth round back in 2012, serving as a backup to Marshawn Lynch for three seasons. While Turbin never scored a rushing touchdown in a Seahawks uniform, he scored a couple of receiving touchdowns, including the only touchdown in the Seahawks’ 19-3 Thanksgiving domination at the San Francisco 49ers.
CBS not only has Turbin and Russ, but Nate Burleson is another voice on the “NFL Today” studio team.
Let’s hope that no one in the Browns-Jaguars game has a massive run called back due to an offensive line penalty, as that might bring up some bad memories for Turbo.
