Albert Breer’s Takeaways: With Joe Schoen, John Harbaugh in Lockstep, the Giants are Gaining Momentum | SI.com
The Giants now can truly move forward. That’s because the team pushed an extension for GM Joe Schoen, who was in a contract year, over the goal line last week. It’s obviously great news for Schoen, but the organization, too, in that it aligns the timelines of John Harbaugh and Schoen neatly and gives those in the building peace of mind that the revamped football operation will now have a real shot to grow in the new coach’s first year.
Another sign that Schoen was
staying: the hire of Dawn Aponte, who Schoen worked with for five seasons in Miami, and the empowerment of Aponte in a new Lions–Rams style model, that would allow for Schoen to focus more on talent evaluation and roster building. And all of this positive momentum has continued since.

S Jevon Holland, New York Giants Once a premier safety in the NFL, Holland must look to steer a ship that’s started to tilt in recent memory. After securing at least 0.15 PFF Wins Above Replacement in every year from 2021-23, Holland’s play has slid in the two years since. In his last season in Miami, Holland netted just a 63.0 overall PFF grade, although that didn’t stop the Giants from making him the ninth-highest-paid safety by average annual value. Yet Holland was poor again in 2025, as his 53.0 PFF coverage grade placed 39th out of 49 qualifiers at the position.
Holland will be afforded a second season to man the middle of New York’s defense in 2026, but he’ll need to make a strong first impression on John Harbaugh. If Holland produces another substandard year, then questions will linger about his true identity as a player given his drastic splits. Those could quickly snowball into trade chatter considering his $18.89 million cap hit in 2027, plus that he’ll be a free agent in 2028.
What John Harbaugh is trying to find in the controlled chaos of the Giants’ spring practices | New York Post
As John Harbaugh discussed what he saw during the Giants’ organized team activity practices this spring, he made it sound as if what was happening on the field was akin to airliners taking off and landing on adjoining and crisscrossing runways.

Raising the floor with new coach John Harbaugh. The Giants have mostly hired first-time head coaches (Pat Shurmur being the lone exception) since Tom Coughlin’s 12-year run ended more than a decade ago. None had a winning record with the team.
Harbaugh fits the Coughlin mold as a second-time head coach coming off a successful run elsewhere. Whether he raises the Giants’ ceiling, and by how much, remains to be seen. But the floor should rise, at the very least, now that an experienced coach is in control.

Year 2 NFL Leaps to Watch | PFSN.com
Jaxson Dart, QB, New York Giants. As previously mentioned, it was Dart who ended up leading all rookie quarterbacks with his 76.3 PFSN QB Impact Score. He finished with the ninth-lowest interception percentage among qualified quarterbacks, and he kept a rough New York Giants team competitive in games against playoff teams like Denver, Chicago, and Green Bay. With a better coaching staff, a healthy Malik Nabers, and a roster that got a much-needed facelift this offseason, Dart could thrive.

New York Giants Will Win the NFC East. They’ve got an intriguing quarterback in Jaxson Dart, who generated 24 passing/rushing touchdowns to just five interceptions in 14 games as a rookie. And now, he should have top receiver Malik Nabers (knee) and high-impact second-year running back Cam Skattebo (ankle) back in the mix. A solid offensive line has been beefed up with first‑rounder Francis Mauigoa, and the pass‑catching corps should benefit from the addition of veteran Isaiah Likely. A defense already loaded with young talent up front also added prime DROY candidate Arvell Reese with the fifth overall pick in last month’s draft. Throw in a head coach with Super Bowl pedigree in John Harbaugh, and the ingredients are there for a sneaky breakout.
The Eagles are vulnerable on both sides of the ball. Saquon Barkley is aging and they could take a big risk in trading A.J. Brown. The Cowboys still have a lot of questions to answer on defense. And the Commanders will need to see major improvement on D as well, while quarterback Jayden Daniels faces some challenges following a sophomore season to forget. In other words, the NFC East could be wide open for the G-Men to shock the football world in 2026.
