When Vincent Kompany first arrived as head coach of Bayern Munich in 2024, he took a good long look at the clubs best young players and chose five of them to go to the extended pre-season in South Korea with the first team. Adin Ličina was one of the five and the left footed CAM/RW hybrid impressed in his limited minutes, showing off his tricks, flair and creative spark. It was not enough to make the jump to the first team and he returned to the U-23s, but the hope was that this would spark a big
season from the youngster.
It did not turn out that way, unfortunately. Injuries disrupted the Germany U-19 international’s season and he watched Lennart Karl race through the youth teams during his absence and seal a spot in the first team squad. It is amazing how quickly things can change in a year.
With the 18-year-old’s contract at Bayern expiring in 2026, it is soon time for Ličina to make a decision. According to a report from Kerry Hau, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, there are already a lot of interested clubs lurking:
Several clubs from Germany and abroad have approached Bayern talent Adin Ličina (18) to sign him on a free transfer next summer. Bayern would like to extend Ličina’s contract beyond 2026, but would have to present him with a reasonable plan and perspective. That hasn’t happened yet. Ličina, who can play in attacking midfield and on the wing, is one of the most talented young players at the Bayern campus. Following several minor injuries and illnesses last season, he’s looking to get back to his best this season. Ličina has a goal and 4 assists in 6 Regionalliga games for FCB II so far this season and also provided an assist in Germany U19’s 3-1 win against Italy last week.
BFW Analysis
Bayern rather cannot offer Ličina a reasonable perspective within the first team. That spot is taken by Karl. And Karl has proven that he has more potential than Ličina and has already pledged his future to the club. It would still be a big shame to see Ličina go, because he is really talented, he has been at the FC Bayern campus since he was 8 and his chance to establish himself at Bayern was cruelly stolen from him over the course of a year by fate, but realistically it seems that a departure is the only logical outcome and that Bayern simply have the better players at the moment.
Bayern Munich is in a very interesting part of its season, which is sandwiched between two international breaks. What should we expect? Will Vincent Kompany be able to manage it effectively? There is a lot to discuss.
