Despite Oleksandr Usyk openly targeting a fight against former WBC titleholder Deontay Wilder, longtime boxing reporter Dan Rafael cites his sources that a Deontay Wilder vs Derek Chisora fight is in the
midst of being finalized for April in London. This represents an potential unexpected turn of events as even the WBC had paved way for Usyk to defend against Wilder, despite recently mentioning that they hadn’t received particulars on that proposed fight.
If Wilder were to face Chisora instead of Usyk, it would represent a much more intriguing fight due to their blend of styles, combined with the fact that no one really gives Wilder any shot in his current form to offer up much resistance to Usyk. Then, if Wilder were to beat Chisora it could potentially bolster a fight with Usyk for later this year — but that’s all really up in the air as so much could happen between now and then
For now, this Wilder vs Chisora fight report sort of comes out of nowhere, but that’s hardly a new phenomena in this sport, but it’s likely to be better received by fans. We’ll update you all as soon as more information becomes available.
