Damian Pinas entered UFC Mexico with the reputation of a fierce knockout artist and he didn’t disappoint.
In his first fight since being signed off of Dana White’s Contender Series, Pinas continued his finishing ways with a brutal first-round TKO of Wes Schultz in Saturday’s opening middleweight bout in Mexico City.
Watch Pinas’ fast punch-out below.
From the start,
Pinas was all over Schultz, drilling him with rapid 1-2 combinations that had Schultz tumbling all around the octagon. Pinas followed with ground-and-pound every time, but Schultz kept finding ways to defend himself. The resistance didn’t discourage Pinas, who stuck with his boxing and eventually clipped Schultz with right on the button that dropped Schultz once more and prompted referee Horacio Lopez Villanueva to step in for the save.
The official time of the stoppage was 2:30 of Round 1.
Pinas improved to 9-1 with the win and has now won five straight fights, while Schultz, also a recent Contender Series signing, falls to 8-3 as a pro.
