Jamal Musiala’s performance in Bayern Munich’s 2-1 Champions League victory over PSV Eindhoven felt like another important step in a return to full rhythm — and his post-match comments reflected both satisfaction
and ambition. The attacking midfielder capped the night with a crucial goal, but just as telling was the self-awareness and hunger embedded in his words afterward.
“I’m really happy about my goal. My mom has already sent me thousands of WhatsApp messages. I’m especially happy to be back on the pitch. My focus is now on the next game, to keep raising my level. It was really good, except for the beginning of the second half – I briefly forgot to play football then. I had some good moments and I’m slowly getting back into it,” said Musiala (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “When I’m on the pitch, I just want to have a lot of energy and focus and deliver. Today was a good day. We haven’t let our level drop for many games now. We learned that against Augsburg, when we need to ease off a bit. It was an important win today. Now the decisive games are coming up and it’s important that we raise our level a little bit for these matches.”
That quote perfectly encapsulates Musiala’s night. There was joy — the goal, the emotion, the family blowing up his phone — but also honesty. He acknowledged the brief lull after halftime, a stretch where Bayern as a whole lost some control. Yet rather than gloss over it, Musiala framed it as part of the process of building consistency.
Most encouraging for Bayern is Musiala’s mindset. He is not content with just being back, he’s focused on pushing his level higher as the season enters its most demanding phase. With decisive matches looming, Bayern will need exactly what Musiala described — energy, focus, and delivery. Against PSV, he showed all three, and it may only be the beginning.
