Following the draft, I asked the following question:
Now, following the NFL Draft, which holes do you still see that need to be filled on this roster before heading into training camp for our Miami Dolphins, and why?
Below are some of your thougths and answers-
Bull Pupp says this rebuild will take 2-3 years.
This team was left cap-wise and talent-wise in pretty bad shape. This type of turn around needs 2 years at the minimum to look like a decent team. By year three dividends will begin to show up.
Must score on late round draft picks and some UDFS to fill out a solid team.
tvegas897 says the front office has some work to do on this defense.
Secondary and the pass rush is going to suck if they don’t pick up a couple of veterans
CluelessNFLfan agrees with tvegas897 about the holes not filled in this draft/free agency.
Edge and Safety. Impossible for a rebuilding team to meet all needs in one draft, but those were 2 glaring needs that were not adequately addressed
davidson11 is one of a large group of fans who are unhappy with the team passing on Downs.
There’s a Caleb Downs-shaped hole in the secondary.
PA phinphan believes the team is lacking a true #1 at wideout and needs depth in other areas to compete.

WR1, S, CB, and GWhy?
There is no number 1 wr on the team. The closest might be Bell and he’s not cleared medically. A true ball hawk safety is lacking. With the amount of injuries in the past, at least one more cb. Lastly, a proven veteran guard would be nice. Too many unknowns at that position.
JUK gave us a nice breakdown of needs or lack thereof by position group.
Room by room:
QB – not a need this year
RB – not a need. Could get a cheap vet or Moss in the 4th spot
WR – realistically I think we are done. The two draftees, Tolbert, Atwell and one or both of Malik Washington and Coleman
TE – not likely to add
OL – could still upgrade veteran depth but not a major need, especially if Proctor starts inside
Edge – we need at least one big edge. Who is setting the edge in the run game?
DL – Room for a vet unless Konga or Butler step up
LB – we’ve got 5 who are roster locks. Not a need
CB – not a major need, but if add Douglas it suddenly looks like a really nice room. Johnson/Douglas/Brents/Marshall/Baker is a decent top 5
Safety – the other big need. Need another guy with significant starting experience
I would say an edge who can set the edge and a safety are the top 2, and Douglas would be nice to get back in a leadership role in the CB room. Epenesa makes sense, not a lot out there on the safety market. Jabrill Peppers maybe?
OldFinFanDon agrees with others that the secondary and a legit pass rusher are still big needs for this roster.
Need a S, another CB, and an Edge.
Alley Gator wants some more safeties and a veteran presence added to the wide receiver room.
2 safeties, we went into the draft with none and still have none according to Hafley/Sully. They say Kyle Louis will play all over the field in different roles, mostly LB. Nothing against Taaffe (don’t want eplaya to melt down again) but counting on a 5th round Safety as a starter seems risky. Also a veteran WR or two, I have no confidence that Tolbert or Tutu make the final roster, and all these youngins aren’t ready to start and will need some veterans to guide them.
Ejplaya believes a couple of key signings could go a long way towards helping this team win some games.
I would say one corner and one edge would be beneficial if you’re trying to win games. Aj epenesa and rasul Douglas would solve that.
scrwal says the team won’t have the money to afford any decent veterans that may remain on the market.
There are needs but we won’t have the cap space after June 1 because the Chubb savings will cover the draft picks and provide a small buffer for signings during the season when injuries strike.
Any veteran signings have to be done at the league minimum which rules out any half decent prospect at a premium position.
Phoenix6 wants a veteran safety brought in.
Which holes do you still see that need to be filled heading into training camp for our Dolphins 🐬 and why?
I still see the Safety position as still needing to be addressed.
Someone that already has NFL experience.
MIAMI235 jumps on the we need secondary help bandwagon and also wants a true #1 WR.
Very VALID question.
Another Solid Safety/ CB.
A legit WR , with sure hands.
( QB, backup still should be looked at further)
That’s our selection of comments for this evening. It seems that if there is any consensus, it’s that this team needs secondary help badly, along with some help with the pass rush and at wideout. My guess is that unless some quality vets want to take a near minimum deal, we are stuck with what we are stuck with and will need to just hope that some of the draft picks that we don’t expect much from step up, all the ones that we do expect something from, all step up, and that we get something from the UDFA’s. The reality is that this will likely be an overall tough year, and we fans will just have to wait it out for at least another season until this team has some money to spend in free agency and another draft to fill some of the bigger holes still left on the roster. As always, thank you to each one of you who took their time to join in on our Phinsider Question Of The Day post.
