Despite Duke Brennan fouling out with 4:29 remaining and a career day from Nigel James Jr., the Wildcats leave Milwaukee with another win. Villanova (13-3) survives what would have been a Quad-3 loss against
the Golen Eagles.
Acaden Lewis was phenomenal once again, scoring 20 points and dishing out 8 assists. His last assist to Tyler Perkins was the biggest moment of the game. Lewis averaged 20 points and 7.5 assists in two games this week, which will likely lead to another weekly honor from the Big East.
Matt Hodge and Devin Askew were about to rebound from poor games on Wednesday, scoring 14 and 13 points respectively. Hodge came out ablaze in the first half, and Askew was massive in the second half.
Lindsay, on the other hand, struggled for the second consecutive game. Lindsay is a combined 5/20 shooting in those contests. He also had 4 key turnovers, which led to a brief benching by coach Willard.
Naturally, Marquette made 11 threes on the day (with 7 of them coming from the aforementioned James Jr.). The 6’ freshman and cousin of Lewis scored a season-high 31 points on 11/14 shooting and 7/9 from deep. The Wildcats were able to contain Chase Ross, holding the senior to 8 points on 3/12 shooting. Forward Royce Parham was only other Golden Eagle in double figures, scoring 17 points on 4/8 shooting.
Villanova takes on Providence on Tuesday in Rhode Island. The Friars are coming off of a blowout road loss at Xavier.
