Monday saw the teams in the Atlanta Braves system lose both games while allowing 23 combined runs. However there was a lot of positive, as all of the bigger named prospects in the lowest levels had big games – particularly Diego Tornes and Edelson Cabral.
FCL Twins 10, FCL Braves 3
- Diego Tornes, CF: 2-4, 2 3B, R, .191/.276/.265
- Manuel Campos, SS: 1-3, 2B, BB, SB, .266/.378/.415
- Gabriel Cesa, LF: 2-3, 2 3B, 2 R, .186/.263/.257
Starter Brody Fowler allowed four runs in three and two thirds and both relievers who followed were no better, as all three gave up multiple runs. Will Eldridge was charged with four runs over an inning and a third, and then Edward Cedano
proceeded to give up two more in his one inning.
On the positive side Diego Tornes may have had his best game of the season, especially important as he has not posted good numbers – though the underlying stuff doesn’t look nearly as bad as his stat line would suggest. Anyway Tornes went two for four with a pair of triples and scored a run. He came into the day with one extra base hit on the year (a double), and tripled that in one afternoon. Gabriel Cesa joined Tornes by recording two triples, and scored two runs as well. Manuel Campos also had a strong day at the plate, doubling in three at bats, drawing a walk, and stealing a base.
DSL Brewers Gold 13, DSL Braves 7
- Edelson Cabral, 2B: 2-4, 3B, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB
- Sherrintely Da Costa Gomez, DH: 1-4, HR, R, 2 RBI
- Osmar Torrealba, RF: 2-3, 3B
- Jose Manon, SS: 0-3, BB, R
- Jorwin Pulido, C: 1-4, 2B, R
- Starlyn De La Cruz, CF: 1-3, BB, R, 2 SB
The Braves actually held a 7-0 lead after the top of the seventh inning, but they proceeded to allow 13 unanswered runs and took the loss. Starter Lionel Prevosti was changed with nine runs over his three innings, while Moises Semirite allowed three in an inning and two thirds, and Charlis Medina allowed one in his inning of work. The only Braves pitcher not to allow a run was Yangel Martinez, who only went a third of an inning.
The biggest prospects in the lineup certainly did their part in this one. After a bit of a slow start due to some bad luck, Edelson Cabral singled, tripled, stole a base, scored a pair of runs, and also batted two in. Similarly off to a slow start Osmar Torrealba was two for three with a single and a triple. Sherrintely Da Costa Gomez hit a two-run homer, while Jorwin Pulido added a double. The other two big name prospects also did their part as Starlyn De La Cruz singled, walked, stole two bases, and scored a run, while Jose Manon walked and scored.
