Bayern Munich is back in action in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, this time with a road trip to Portugal to face SL Benfica.
Last time out, the Bavarians suffered a second-half collapse at home to draw Manchester City despite scoring the first two goals of the game. This time, Bayern will be determined to finish the job. Benfica already have secured a win in the UWCL this year, 2-1 over Juventus.
Meanwhile, Bayern required a comeback of its own to advance in the German cup on Sunday, a 2-1 scrape
over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
“They’re a well-organized side with great quality in possession and obvious attacking strength. If we give them the time and space, they’ll play their way out of any given situation That’s why we need to be tight, alert and aggressive in defense. We know they’ll be playing with great determination and passion for their club – and that’s exactly what makes this match such an exciting challenge,” said Bayern captain Glódís Perla Viggósdóttir in match preview comments captured by FCBayern.com.
Head coach José Barcala also expressed that he expects an “exciting, intense, and challenging match” while Bayern forward Linda Dallmann predicted that the result would “come down a lot to mentality and physicality.”
Prediction: Bayern wins, 3-1. It’s been shaky lately. This will be one for shaking out the cobwebs as we roll into October.
