The Texas Longhorns suffered a second departure to the NCAA transfer portal since the current window opened on Monday with the announcement that right-hander Jadyn Furgason is leaving the Forty Acres after one season.
Furgason has four seasons of eligibilty remaining after redshirting during the 2026 season.
A 6’2, 175-pounder from Fenton (Miss.) St. John Vianney, Furgason committed to head coach Jim Schlossnagle in 2023 when he was at Texas A&M and then followed him to Austin after he took the job in Austin, pledging to Texas on July 2, 2024. Also an outfielder in high school, Furgason was the No. 109 right-hander pitcher and the No. 358 player overall in the Perfect Game rankings.
Part of a pitching-heavy class that Baseball America ranked No. 1 nationally, Furgason was unable to work into a crowded pitching rotation that ultimately featured classmates like Sam Cozart, Brett Crossland, Brody Walls, and, to a lesser extent, Michael Winter. And Furgason’s decision to leave the Longhorns program is a potential indication that he was set to head into the offseason behind other freshman pitchers like Kaleb Rogers, Cooper Rummel, and Jack McKernan.
