It appears as though the Philadelphia Eagles are throwing a curveball at the New York Giants.
The Eagles have decided to make a change at quarterback and are starting quarterback Joe Milton III, per a report from Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.
The report comes as the Giants have spent much of the last week since their upset win over the Houston Texans preparing for Tanner McKee. McKee has started the last three games for the Eagles and is 0-3 in that stretch, completing 63.2 percent of his passes
with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. The Eagles have lost their last three games by a combined 45-90.
Milton III was originally drafted by the New England Patriots out of Tennessee in the 6th round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He was traded to the Dallas Cowboys in the spring of 2025, and the Eagles signed him off the Dallas practice squad on October 16th.
Where McKee is a relatively immobile pocket passer, Milton is a massive (6-foot-5, 236-pound), athletic, and strong-armed quarterback. Milton has appeared in five games in 2024 and 2025, but only saw significant action in the Patriots’ 2024-2025 Week 18 win over the Buffalo Bills. Milton didn’t start, but finished that game 22 of 29 for 241 yards and a touchdown.
It was a shockingly good performance, and one he has yet to replicate.
While Milton possesses elite physical tools, he was heavily knocked for inconsistency and a lack of accuracy in college. He has enough arm strength to access all areas of the field, but completed just 38.6% of his passes beyond 10 yards downfield — despite Tennessee’s simplistic offense. He also rarely threw with anything like timing, touch, or anticipation and is much more of a “fastball only” passer.
That said, Milton’s presence will force the Giants’ pass rush to be more disciplined. He’s a powerful and fast runner, which could hurt the Giants if they’re undisciplined in their rushes or allow him to break contain.
It will be interesting to see how the Giants adapt to the sudden change at quarterback, and whether Milton can spark a listless Eagles’ offense.
