Former Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané is enjoying a fresh start in the Turkish Süper Lig at Galatasaray — but one side effect of his move appears to have been his omission from Germany’s World Cup Qualifying roster in September.
German men’s national team coach Julian Nagelsmann referred to the Süper Lig’s status in the pecking order of top-flight football, commenting that Sané has to correspondingly raise his production for consideration. Now Sané has responded.
“The exchange with Julian Nagelsmann
has always been good and, above all, very open and honest, that’s what I value most about him,” Sané said in remarks captured by Sport Bild (via @iMiaSanMia). “I know exactly what he wants to see from me, of course, it’s mainly up to me.
“After the international break, things are really getting started. I like the two games a week the most to really gain momentum and get into a good rhythm. Only then will the season really start. Four games and four wins were already an extremely important step for us, even though, of course, not everything was 100% perfect.”
Sané has a goal and an assist from his first four starts at Galatasaray, and they were both earned in the same game. More importantly, his team is undefeated and sits top of the table with him an easy selection so far in the XI. Now we will see if Sané can produce those “certain numbers” demanded of his national team coach.
