Syracuse kept the recruiting momentum going as the Orange landed two 2027 commitments on Monday.
Defensive back Jamel Griffin from Opelika, Alabama committed to Syracuse over offers from Kentucky, Tulane, and USF among others. Offensive lineman Botond Varga from Tabor Academy (MA) chose the Orange over offers from Boston College, Duke, North Carolina, Wake Forest and others.
The 6’1 160 lb Griffin is rated a three-star recruit by 247 and last season he had 83 tackles, four pass break-ups and five quarterback
hurries for the Alabama 7A runner-up. In addition to his success on the gridiron, Griffin excels on the track as he’s run 6.87 for the 60m dash and 10.57 in the 100m (a time which would have qualified for the ACC Championships).
Here’s a look at Griffin in action from last year.
The 6’8” 310 pound Vargas, who is originally from Hungary, is rated a three-star recruit by 247 and Rivals. Both have him listed as top-75 offensive tackle and the 6th best recruit in Massachusetts in the class. Here are some highlights of Varga from last season.
Syracuse is now up to 18 commitments in the 2027 class.
