Facundo Buonanotte looks set to join Chelsea in a surprise move that came out of nowhere in this final weekend of the summer transfer window, with the Blues seemingly taking a flier on the 20-year-old attacking midfielder who’s been deemed surplus to requirements at Brighton & Hove Albion, after Xavi Simons decided to join Tottenham Hotspur instead.
But that’s only part of the narrative, as a story from The Athletic explains. Apparently Buonanotte was all set to join Leeds United, who already bought
his flight and booked his medical. But then Chelsea swooped, and “he never got on the plane”. Legend already!
It may not be immediately obvious how or where the creative and dribble-happy Buonanotte might fit in; he’s left footed and has played mostly in the center or on the right. But it’s good to have options in the squad and technically he’ll be here only on loan anyway. We’re dealing with multiple injury concerns in attacking positions already, for example.
