What is the story about?
The
Cleveland Browns are back home today, still in search of their first win of the 2025 NFL season. Opposing them are the Green Bay Packers, who have become the darlings of the NFC after two impressive wins. In other news, the Browns will debut their embarrassingly bad “Alpha Dawg” uniforms for reasons known only to them.
While we all wait for kickoff, let’s take a run through the latest news and notes about the Cleveland Browns and the NFL in today’s edition of the Sunday Dawg Chow.
Dawgs By Nature:
- Report: Browns fell in love with the wrong QB in 2022 (Thomas Moore) – Cleveland would have stuck with Baker Mayfield if they had not become “obsessed” with Deshaun Watson.
- Packers TE Tucker Kraft injury update for Week 3 vs Browns (Jared Mueller) – After Green Bay tight end Tucker Kraft had an injury scare in practice, it looks like he will be playing today against the Browns.
- Browns practice squad elevations vs. the Packers (Jared Mueller) – The Cleveland Browns made two interesting elevations on Saturday, neither of which was on the offensive line.
- Browns injury update Week 3: Will Andre Szmyt kick against the Packers? (Jared Mueller) – The Cleveland Browns didn’t bring any kickers in for workouts after Andre Szmyt struggled in Week 1 and, thankfully, won’t need to make a move for Week 3.
- Browns fans: What is your favorite tailgate food? (Abby Mueller) – One of the great parts about being a great football town is having great tailgates, and Clevelanders do it best.
- 3 Players to watch in this Packers, Browns matchup (Curtiss Brown) – The Cleveland Browns vs. the Green Bay Packers has some great players visiting from Green Bay.
- Winners, Losers in the AFC North after Week 2 (Curtiss Brown) – The AFC North is looking weak besides the Baltimore Ravens, with the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cincinnati Bengals having warts after Week 2.
Cleveland Browns:
- Quinshon Judkins eyes bigger workload against Packers’ No. 2 run defense in 2nd game (Beacon Journal) – There was no real frame of reference Quinshon Judkins had to know about what playing in an NFL game would be like before the Browns rookie running back made his debut in a Week 2 loss at the Baltimore Ravens.
- What is with the Browns’ game plan? Stats show problem (Terry Pluto) – What team led the NFL in pass attempts last season? If you’ve been reading me for a while, you know it was the Cleveland Browns.
- If Joe Flacco doesn’t return to 2023 form, season could get ugly in a hurry (Browns Zone) – According to most NFL scientists, the Browns are either the third-worst team in the NFL (30th overall), the second-worst team in the NFL (31st overall) or the worst team in the NFL (32nd overall). Thankfully, it is still too close to call, but not too close to imagine that The Fighting Stefanskis might even have enough of the wrong stuff to hit the finish line as the worst team in the NFL this season. Perhaps even the worst Browns team ever.
- How the Browns stop the run against the Packers in Week 3 (clevelandbrowns.com) – As the Cleveland Browns get ready to face the Green Bay Packers for the first time in four seasons, here are three keys to the game.
NFL:
- Why has the Raiders’ running game failed to catch fire? (ESPN) – What was meant to be the foundation of the Las Vegas Raiders’ offense has been a weakness.
- Backups abound as NFL quarterbacks keep going down (Washington Post) – NFL primer: It’s Week 3, and we already have reached the Carson Wentz vs. Jake Browning portion of the season.
- ‘You are looking live’: On Sunday, CBS throwing back to origins of ‘The NFL Today’ (The Athletic) – The nostalgia economy is big business these days — wait, Oasis is touring again? — and Sunday’s episode of CBS’s “The NFL Today” is going to play heavy into looking back, even as “you are looking live” at the Week 3 games.
