Ronald Araujo was back in the team and able to help Barcelona enjoy a 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday night in Saudi Arabia.
The Uruguay defender was only a late substitute in the game – as he made his return after a mental health break – but did deliver a pre-match speech to the team, as revealed by Pedri after the victory.
Some more detail has now emerged on exactly what Araujo said as he did his best to inspire his team-mates ahead of kick-off in Jeddah.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Araujo mentioned Barca’s defeat to Real Madrid last time out in La Liga and highlighted how winning the title would be the perfect response to that loss.
Araujo also hailed the confidence he had in his team-mates, the close bond between the players and concluded with the words: “Let’s keep making history.”
Barcelona went on to win the game thanks to two goals from Raphinha and a Robert Lewandowski strike. The result poured more misery on Real Madrid and has since led to the departure of Xabi Alonso as manager.
