Newcastle United’s turbulent summer has already included several major departures, but the club appears determined to avoid losing yet another key player.
The i Paper’s Mark Douglas reported on Monday that Newcastle has labeled left-back Lewis Hall “untouchable” and “unequivocally not for sale” despite Manchester United preparing to explore a deal for the England international.
“His age profile, potential, contractual status and experience mean he is regarded as crucial to Newcastle’s future,” Douglas
reported. “Sources insist there is no flexibility on Hall, whose age and potential mean that – like Lewis Miley, who agreed a new contract at the start of the close season – he is regarded as untouchable by Newcastle’s hierarchy.”
Manchester United had planned to open talks this week, with Fabrizio Romano previously confirming Hall is an internally approved target at Old Trafford. TEAMtalk also reported Man Utd was preparing a bid worth around £60 million.
“Man Utd really appreciate Lewis Hall and Man Utd consider Lewis Hall as an ideal player they would like to add to their squad,” Romano said. “So, Lewis Hall is on the Manchester United list, for sure, and he’s a player internally approved at Manchester United.”
After sanctioning the sales of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and soon Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle seems determined to put an end to the exodus before it goes from large to massive. If it comes down to financial business, then there surely is no need to keep adding money to the coffers after bagging around £250 million from the aforementioned three sales.
Douglas confirmed that the Magpies internally expected Gordon to leave for financial considerations, and also accepted Tonali’s exit once they learned of Tottenham’s willingness to pay so much money for their midfielder. Bruno’s age and current market value, meanwhile, created some financial logic around the negotiations with Arsenal, Douglas added.
Hall, 21, remains under contract through 2029 and has been earmarked for a significant role under Matthias Jaissle after exploding under the guidance of Eddie Howe during the past few seasons.
Newcastle also plans to add full-back depth around Hall and Tino Livramento rather than replace either player, with no really playable backups at any position heading into the 2026/27 season.
