Bayern Munich ended the first leg of the UCL quarterfinals in Madrid with a 1-2 victory over Real Madrid. While the home-side has much to rejoice from the result which ended in a narrow defeat, the cohesion of the team should be worrying. It was shadow compared to the rhythm of the Bavarians. Scorer of the second goal, Harry Kane, reflected very positively on the strong connection in the Bayern squad.
In an interview with Football on TNT, Harry Kane gave an insight into the chemistry of the German
side.
Interviewer: As a team, you just looked to all be singing from the same hymn sheet. Is that fair to say?
Harry Kane: Yeah, we’ve enjoyed some really good moments together. Obviously we’re in business at the end of the season now, so we’re hoping we can maintain that. But I think the more you play together, the more you train, the feelings get even stronger.Harry Kane: We always feel dangerous. We always feel like we can score goals for sure. And we did it again away from home tonight.
Real Madrid are giants of the Champions League. However, Bayern dictated the majority of the game with incredible tact and a gritty resolve to not be pressured out of possession. Stitching together several instances of attack, the Bavarians cut through the Madrid defense like a knife through butter on more than a few occasions.
Real Madrid on the other hand, relied on throwing tackles and bodies to defend rather than any coordinated pressing strategy. In attack, the pace of Kylian Mbappé and the guile of Vinícius Júnior rarely worked together leaving Bayern in a superior position. The Bayern players on the other hand executed their plans, often finding the right pass despite being surrounded by Real players and playing their way out of tight situations. This Bayern team has a lot more goals it can score in the return leg, if only they can maintain composure and back themselves to shoot more in the box.
