Bayern Munich are making progress on their own in the German side’s pursuit of Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, whether the Magpies like it or not.
According to the latest reports, Bayern have already offered England international a long-term contract ahead of the summer window.
The leak comes from Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg, who reported on Tuesday that Bayern have already given the player and his camp detailed terms of his potential deal with them if a transfer is sanctioned by Newcastle.
“Despite
interest from other top clubs, FC Bayern have now presented Anthony Gordon and his camp with concrete figures,” Plettenberg reported. “Gordon could sign a five-year contract at Bayern. The main issue remains an agreement with Newcastle — not with the player.”
That last point, however, is key. Personal terms are obviously not expected to be a major obstacle for convincing Gordon to join such a behemoth as Bayern, but negotiations with Newcastle are going to be tough as nails for anyone to pull off a financially reasonable transfer.
Bayern have reportedly offered Newcastle £60m for their winger, but it looks like the Magpies are holding firm on their valuation of Gordon, quoting him at around £75m–£80m.
Interest from multiple clubs, including Barcelona and Arsenal, could strengthen Newcastle’s negotiating position, however, and it looks increasingly likely somebody will end up paying as much money as the Geordie club demands.
