College football is on fire right now. It’s more like a double fire though. The season itself has been outstanding with plenty of storylines all around and there are still over 30 schools that still have
a fair chance at making the college football playoff.
The HOTTEST thing about college football, however, isn’t the play on the field — it’s the amount of coaches that have already been shown the door. These aren’t just some random prorams either. Schools such as Penn State, Florida, and now LSU (after firing Brian Kelly on Sunday) are in need of a new head coach.
OBVIOUSLY, Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman is a name that keeps surfacing as a possible candidate for a different job other than the one he has in South Bend. Within minutes of Kelly’s firing, On3 already posted an article about who the top candidates for the LSU job might be… and there is Freeman.
Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame
Marcus Freeman might not have an interest in leaving South Bend, but he will be the biggest fish athletic directors can land at Florida, Penn State and now LSU. He’s proven he can recruit at a high level, and took the Fighting Irish to a national title game last season. The allure of being able to recruit some of the nation’s top talent with fewer administrative restrictions will be attractive.
It’s basically a boiler plate paragraph that was used about Brian Kelly as a candidate for LSU back in 2021.
Look… Freeman’s name is going to come up. He’s one of the best rising stars in the profession, and big numbers are going to be thrown his way. While I’d like to say that I’m not worried about Freeman leaving at all, I live in the real world. Real dollars mean something to everyone, and there could be a number out there that would be impossible to turn down.
Having said that, I don’t expect Freeman to leave for LSU or Penn State or wherever — and I’m just locking in on these final 5 games of the regular season.
