Bayern Munich are sweating over the fitness of Michael Olise ahead of their upcoming Champions League clash against Atlético Madrid, with the Frenchman still facing a race against time to be available.
According to a report from French newspaper L’Équipe (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Olise was at Säbener Straße today to receive treatment as he continues to deal with his current fitness concerns. The winger is scheduled to undergo a fitness test tomorrow, which will determine whether he is fit enough
to travel with the squad to Madrid.
Bayern Munich will make a decision based on the results of that assessment, but there is no intention of taking unnecessary risks with one of their most important attacking players. Even with the growing injury problems in attack, the club is prepared to exercise caution rather than potentially aggravate Olise’s issue by rushing him back prematurely.
That is an understandable approach. Bayern Munich has already been hit hard by injuries, with Serge Gnabry and Ismael Saibari recently joining the absentee list following the 2-2 draw against Borussia Dortmund. Losing Olise on top of those setbacks would be another significant blow to the team’s attacking options.
However, Bayern Munich’s long-term interests must take priority over one match. Olise has become an enormously important part of the team’s attacking structure, and having him available for the remainder of the season is far more valuable than gambling on his fitness in Madrid.
Monday’s assessment should provide greater clarity, but his participation against Atlético remains uncertain.
