The time has finally come. Montreal defeated the Buffalo Sabres in overtime on Monday night and have advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals to do battle with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Canes last played on May 9th and have been waiting patiently to see who their opponent would be. They are off today and are scheduled to practice again tomorrow, (Wednesday).
Carolina swept both of their series, first against Ottawa and then against Philadelphia. On the other hand, Montreal advanced twice surviving
after seven games, and both of those in overtime. The Canes have played the minimum eight games while the Habs have played the maximum, 14.
The Hurricanes will have waited a record 12 days before they take the ice for real again. So, what will be better? A long wait or moving right from one series to another?
Many experts are saying that it won’t matter. Carolina is the better team period, but these things need to be proven on the ice. (Although, PK Subban has predicted that Montreal will win, just as he predicted that Ottawa and Philadelphia would win previously.)
The bookies have made the Hurricanes heavy favorites, (-200 to +164) in game one and (-285 to +230) for the series. (from FanDuel Sports Book).
We will be taking a look at matchups and some stats soon here at Canes Country.
