The 2027 NFL Draft feels like forever away, and we’re all caught up in the start of the NFL season. Regardless, it’s never too early to look ahead to the Draft. This weekly series will take a closer look at some of the prospects the Carolina Panthers could select in the 2027 iteration of the Draft. In this series, we’ll only be looking at prospects the Panthers could seriously consider. This week our profile will focus on Alabama Crimson Tide cornerback Zabien Brown
Bio
Brown (6’0”, 192 lbs.) has the
rare achievement of starting at Alabama as a true freshman. The former five star recruit from Santa Ana, CA really took over on the boundary last season, snagging a couple interceptions and providing elite run support for the position. The preseason First Team All-American and team captain has started out his true junior campaign with his usual dependability, with opposing teams avoiding his side of the field whenever possible.
Strengths/Weaknesses
Brown has the size and athleticism to stick on the boundary in the NFL, running a sub 4.4 forty yard dash at just under 200 lbs. Perhaps his biggest strength is his willingness and dependability against the run. He crashes without hesitation, more than willing to mix it up even against larger blockers. He’s also a very reliable tackler for a corner, making him great at setting the edge and forcing runs back inside. He has the press man skills to cover well enough, with both of his interceptions last year coming in press man (both of which he returned for touchdowns).
Brown does get beat on occasion, often erased by his elite recovery speed. He can get a little handsy at the top of routes, especially against vertical threats. He’ll need to tighten up his technique in order to stick at the next level. While many scouts agree that Brown has a high ceiling, he is a bit of a project to truly reach that high potential.
Projection
Brown has the size, athleticism, and production to be a quality NFL corner. His elite potential will need some time and coaching to come to fruition, which is why he’s often mocked in the late first to mid second round at the moment. If he can show a little more consistency with his technique this year, his measurables could push him comfortably into the first. With Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson both on IR, and with Jackson’s contract expiring this year, the Panthers would be wise to invest a high pick in the cornerback position. Brown has a similar fearlessness to Jackson in the run game, which is important to have in your corners. If Will Lee III can grow and if Jaycee Horn can come back healthy, Brown could be a great addition to the cornerback room.
What do you think, Panthers fans? If Zabien Brown is available when the Panthers select in the 2027 NFL Draft, should they take him? Sound off in the comments!
