The Syracuse Football team had their first two spring practices over the weekend and the big news was that Steve Angeli was out and able to participate in some drills.
Angeli told the media that he’s ahead of his rehab schedule and expects to be ready to go for the 2026 season.
We won’t see a lot of Angeli this spring, so it’s a time for Amari Odom, Malachi Nelson and the other quarterbacks to show what they can do. Angeli mentioned that he welcomes the competition and that he’s excited about the way
the Orange offense sets up for the season.
It was a sentiment echoed by offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon, who talked about talent, but also youth in the skill positions. Nixon said the staff prioritized getting transfer quarterbacks who can make plays when the offense needs and provide leadership to the roster. Nixon also pointed out freshman Zaid Lott who he mentioned as having a lot of potential.
Speaking of Lott, here’s a clip of his connection with Calvin Russell.
Russell talked after practice about his transition and how Fran convinced him to play basketball this winter, and not worry about football right away. He also mentioned being around his former teammates and how the veteran receivers are helping him get up to speed.
We’ll have more coverage from camp so if you have any specific updates you’re interested in, let us know.
