Ronaldo Araujo says he knew he would score after grabbing the winner for Barcelona in a 2-1 victory over Girona in La Liga on Saturday.
The defender was sent on late in the game by Hansi Flick and came
up with a great finish to snatch all three points.
Araujo spoke out afterwards and said he is happy to play up front for Barca when needed.
“Everyone knows I used to play as a striker. I think if I played as a striker I could score a lot more goals (laughs). When the coach asked me, I didn’t hesitate to say yes,” he said.
“When I arrived to put on the shirt, I said ‘if I get in, I’ll score a goal,’ and everyone laughed afterward when I scored. I work hard to be able to play for the team, so I’m happy about that.“
Barcelona’s match-winner also spoke about the result and the importance of taking three points after consecutive defeats before the international break.
“I’m happy with the win. It was important to get the three points. The game was complicated for us, Girona played well and had plenty of chances. Our team showed that desire and character until the very end. We were able to get the win, which is important.”
“This team has a little bit of everything. We can play well, but we can do other things. We showed that last year. Courage, coming back from behind… this squad shows that every game. We were coming off two tough losses, but we knew that with hard work we could win today and go into what’s next with confidence.”
