The Seattle Seahawks’ first injury report of the season was far from promising, and left many wondering who will suit up at safety in the regular season opener against the New England Patriots on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, Monday’s report didn’t do much to ease those concerns.
Seahawks September 7 practice report
Did not participate:
- S Ty Okada (hamstring)
Limited participant:
- S Nick Emmanwori (ankle)
- WR Tory Horton (hamstring)
- OT Josh Jones (knee)
Full participant:
- TE A.J. Barner (oblique)
- OG Anthony Bradford (knee)
- CB Julian Neal (quadricep)
- RB Emanuel Wilson (hamstring)
With Emmanwori’s status against the Patriots up in the air, a second consecutive absence from Ty Okada is alarming to say the least. Alongside Bud Clark, who was placed
on season-ending injured reserve just 0ver two weeks ago, Julian Love is now the lone healthy safety on the active roster. Despite the flurry of injuries, Seattle has four safeties on their practice squad (Maxen Hook, AJ Finley, D’Anthony Bell and Rodney Thomas II), should Emmanwori and/or Okada be sidelined in Week 1.
The Seahawks are set to release their game designations on Tuesday.
On the other side of the ball, Anthony Bradford was the only player whose status improved, going from a limited to full participant. As for second-year wideout Tory Horton, he remained limited while he continues to navigate through a hamstring injury.
On August 21, head coach Mike Macdonald indicated Horton would be sidelined for “a period of time,” and although his return to practice bodes well for a quick return, it still doesn’t sound likely he’ll suit up on Wednesday. His offseason has been packed with injuries and as a result, missed parts of Organized Team Activities (OTA), numerous training camp practices, and the entire preseason.
As for the Patriots, center Ben Brown (knee) was downgraded to out and running back TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) was once again a non-participant. Although he hasn’t yet been ruled out, Henderson hasn’t practiced since hurting his ankle on August 24 and isn’t expected to play. However, Seattle’s trenches are set for a challenge as star defensive tackle Christian Barmore returned to practice as a full participant after being sidelined on Sunday with a knee injury.
