Newcastle United gets an immediate chance to avenge Thursday’s EFL Cup elimination… or double down on the embarrassment that loss caused.
Everton visits St James’ Park on Monday night to close Premier League gameweek nine as Matthias Jaissle’s side lost 3-1 at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in midweek, the team’s third defeat in four matches across all competitions.
William Osula is a doubt after twisting his ankle against Everton, while Lewis Miley and Matias Fernandez-Pardo also remain uncertain. Ewen
Jaouen and Tino Livramento are still unavailable. Yoane Wissa could return to the starting lineup if Osula misses out, while Joelinton is also in contention to come back into midfield after Jacob Ramsey started the cup defeat.
Everton, meanwhile, arrives having won three of the last four meetings between the clubs, including Thursday’s cup tie, but David Moyes’s side has yet to win away from home in the Premier League this season. Newcastle has managed just one league victory at St James’ Park and has not kept a home clean sheet in any competition.
